The mission of the St. Louis Lions Water Polo Club is to create and expand opportunities for young women to excel in the sport of water polo. We are dedicated to the growth of the sport and the growth of each individual player. We are committed to providing the opportunity and encouragement for each player to reach their full potential by cultivating a spirit of leadership, teamwork, and excellence throughout the club.
We welcome all young women, ages 12 and above to join our club, regardless of sport experience or school attended. We offer excellent coaching and a safe environment in which to learn and train for excellence. We will compete in all-girls tournaments and competitions.
We welcome especially those girls of high school age whose school does not offer girls varsity water polo in the spring, as well as those schools that do, for seasonal play and training.
We plan to practice at Ladue, on Thursday nights from 6 to 8 PM, starting August 13th, 2020, and at Lafayette on Monday nights from 7 to 9 PM, starting August 17th. We plan to host a tournament on October 17th and 18th, at MICDS, for girls 18-under and 16-under.
We are, of course, subject to all applicable state and local orders concerning COVID-19 and will abide by them as well as USA Water Polo and SafeSport best practices and guidelines concerning athlete safety.
The Lions are a USA Water Polo registered club, currently structured to accomodate and train girls in the 18-under, 16-under and 14-under team age groups. All of our players will have Bronze Athlete status with USA Water Polo, meaning they can play in any local or regional competitions. In addition, we offer Silver Athlete and Gold Athlete status, which allows national and/or Junior Olympic competitions. The Lions are part of the Midwest Zone in USA Water Polo, consisting of several states including Missouri.
